WAKE – Shelley Burr

WAKE is the searing upcoming debut crime novel by Canberra-based writer Shelley Burr. Joining Bec Bowman for Artbeat this Friday morning, Burr talks about her upcoming novel and how it came about.

‘The original idea for Wake was sparked when I went through a phase of reading true crime forums online. I found them fascinating but also unsettling. I came across a thread where users were discussing the brother of a well-known murder victim. One said that the brother didn’t have any social media, but did have a LinkedIn, and that his employer’s page was public, so they went through the pictures on there looking for him. All I could think was how angry I would be if I was the brother. That’s how Mina was born.”
