War Nurses: A novel inspired by a remarkable family history

In 1941, country girls Minnie Hodgson and Margot McNee set sail from Perth for Singapore, keen to do their part working as nurses to the fallen soldiers in a time of war.

But what they encounter is a city under siege, an army of new friends and the shore of Bangka Island, where they will meet a fate that must never be forgotten.

Anthea Hodgson’s War Nurses is a moving World War Two novel inspired by the author’s own family story surrounding the events of the Bangka Island Massacre.

RTRFM’s Danae Gibson chatted with Anthea about this remarkable story and the familial history behind War Nurses.
