What’s love got to do with Shekhar Kapur?

What’s Love Got To Do With It? is a new British film starring Lily James, Shazad Latif and Emma Thompson. The story swings between London and Lahore where filmmaker Zoe decides to document her best friend’s journey toward arranged marriage. Kazim is her best friend, a doctor … and quite the catch. It is an emotional family film with a lot of comedy and a cross cultural slice of contemporary British life.

It is directed by Shekar Kapur, director of the critically acclaimed 1998 film Elizabeth, among many other projects as producer, director or actor. It is the first screenplay for Jemima Khan, a British screenwriter and independent TV, film and documentary producer.

RTRFM’s Danae Gibson caught up with the film’s director, Shekhar Kapur, and began by asking what it was like to direct a film written by a first time feature film writer.
