Why women are less likely than men to go to work when sick

Studies have shown that women are less likely to go to work than men when they are sick, but why is this?

In these studies, women responded better than men to practices of not going into work when they are sick, instead staying home to take care of themselves. This is believed to be caused by the common stereotype that women are caretakers, and that men tend to engage in more health compromising behaviours than women.

Atikah Hurley chats to Associate Professor Aleksandra Luksyte, a co-author of this study, about the difference between men and women when calling out of work on On The Record.
