York Festival’s September Program

Situated 97 kilometres east of Perth. York is the oldest inland town in Western Australia housing some of WA’s best-preserved heritage architectures.

Running September 20-29, The York Festival is an annual two-week arts festival taking place each spring in the historic town of York, on Ballardong Noongar country.

The festival celebrates community and cultivates creativity by featuring arts and crafts, theatre, dance, music, storytelling, family workshops and activities and more.

The programs opening event is a concert performance of WUNDIG WER WILURA.

Sung in Noongar, Wundig Wer Wilura is a powerful opera from award-winning songwriters and storytellers, Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse and performed by the West Australian Opera.

Director of York Festival 2024, Jenny Garroun chats with Bec Bowman on Artbeat about the festivals program.
