Youth Activism in Formal Corridors

Last week the Federal Court of Australia overturned a decision from 2021 – where eight teenagers and a nun had successfully proven the Government had a duty of care to protect young people from Climate Change.

The Morrison Government has won its appeal, stating Federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley would not need to consider young people and their futures when assessing new fossil fuel projects.

It’s had us thinking about the impact of young people taking action in the climate space – so we spoke to an expert on the matter.

Swinburne University lecturer in Climate Change and Social Justice Dr Aisling Bailey spoke to Taylah Strano on Breakfast about this topic earlier in the week.
