RTRFM is funded by local people and businesses who believe it’s important to hear different music, local stories and diverse voices on their airwaves. That means you!
We don’t receive any operational funding from governments. We rely on and are grateful for your support when you subscribe, donate, take out sponsorship to promote your events and businesses, and buy merch or tickets to our fundraising events.
Our survival
While it’s absolutely free to tune in to RTRFM at any time you want, it costs about $23,000 a week to run the station.
On top of those expenses, we have to budget for things like upgrades to broadcast and transmission equipment, upkeep of our premises, website maintenance and developments in digital and online radio.
RTRFM is a not-for-profit, community organisation with a mission to provide an alternative to mainstream radio stations. We have no commercial agenda and don’t playlist: presenters choose their own music. So, we rely on you to help keep alternative & local music on the air, including our coverage of the arts, current affairs and the environment, as well as First Nations, LGBTQIA+ & women’s issues.

Become a subscriber
When you become a subscriber, your subscription fee directly keeps us on-air. In return, you not only help RTRFM, but you also get a bunch of rewards such as eligibility for on-air giveaways & competitions, subscriber discounts, plus discounted or free entry into RTRFM events.
Donate
You can also support the station by making a tax-deductible donation to RTRFM at our Shop. Donations make us, and you, feel good! All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible, but the amount of your contribution is completely up to you.

Businesses, not-for-profits, community organisations, governments, artists and musicians can sponsor the station. You can find all the benefits of this on our Sponsorship page. You can also be added to our business directory, linking your business to the world of RTRFM listeners.
Fundraising events
RTRFM holds a number of fundraising events throughout the year. Most notable are our annual local music festival In The Pines, Neon Picnic, the annual Quiz night and the Fremantle Winter Music Festival. The profits from these events go towards RTRFM’s survival too!
