The View From Here #41: Boox Kid

The View From Here continues for a sixth season on RTRFM, with 12 monthly instalments featuring some of our favourite local artists in iconic and unexpected locations across WA.

The ninth of 12 episodes sees the wondrous and amazing pop of Boox Kid played high up in the clock tower at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA), in the heart of the Perth Cultural Centre.

Built in 1896 and once the home of both Perth Boys’ and Girls schools and as the first TAFE in the state, the heritage listed building has been the home of Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) since 1991. Today, the View From Here takes up space in the unused clock tower with Boox Kid in tow.

Boox Kid, the songwriting and musical project of Jared Wall, weaves traditional Noongar language and modern themes through his expansive pop sound.

Fitting his four-piece band through (and up!) a winding staircase, the band avoid the pigeons as they play high above the Perth Cultural Centre with the city skyline in the background.

Playing a set of four songs, Boox Kid and his band balance samples, live instruments and soaring vocals to create a wall of pop wonder in a confined space.
