RTRFM is a listener-supported, volunteer-based, not-for-profit radio station. We have a team of 10 staff members and more than 400 volunteers who make this station go round. If you want to join their ranks, scroll to the bottom and fill out the form!
Our hundreds of presenters do it for nothing. They give up their time and quite often their own money to bring you RTRFM 24/7, 365 days a year (and 366 in a leap year). We also have close to 50 office volunteers who help with everything from reception duties, maintaining the music library, editing stories and co-producing On The Record and Artbeat, and contributing to our social media.
If you would like to be part of the team, there are a few things you can do:
- Listen to RTRFM. If you want to work here, know what we do.
- Care about the community around you.
- Listen to local music.
- Express yourself. Be different. Go against the grain.

What RTRFM expects of Volunteers
The qualities that are expected of RTRFM volunteers include punctuality, reliability and the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
This is because RTRFM relies heavily on the contribution volunteers make to the organisation. Without these volunteers, the organisation cannot function.
The volunteers that work at RTRFM have been selected due to the potential and actual capacities they have shown in their induction.
All volunteers must adhere to the RTRFM Code of Conduct.
Breaches of the code during your volunteering time will result in you being removed as a volunteer.
Volunteers are also placed on a six-month time period. At the end of that time we may politely ask you to end your period of volunteering so others can gain opportunities.

How can I support RTRFM?
By listening! That’s the first step. If you’re already tuning in, thank you! If you’d like to help us stay on air (it costs a lot to run a radio station!), you can consider:
- becoming an RTRFM subscriber, which entitles you to a number of benefits including business discounts, discounted entry to RTRFM gigs and eligibility for giveaways
- becoming a monthly donor, which entitles you to feel great about yourself for supporting community radio in Perth
- attend our gigs – we put on 20+ live music fundraisers a year, including In the Pines, Neon Picnic, Fremantle Winter Music Festival, the RTRFM Quiz Night and a heap of one-off shows covering a range of genres and styles
- buy some merch – we’ve got heaps of RTRFM swag, including T-shirts, mugs, stubbie holders & posters
How can I volunteer at the RTRFM office and events?
We’re always looking for more hands on deck, be it in the office or at our events. (We couldn’t put on gigs like In the Pines without the help of our volunteers!) If you’re interested, fill out this form or alternatively email our Subscriber, Volunteer & Social Media Manager Meg Scheffers at mscheffers@rtrfm.com.au and tell us how you’d like to get involved.
Does RTRFM accept work experience students?
