About

Get to know Space Cowboy

It feels important to me at this point to say my favourite novel is At Swim-Two-Birds by Flann O’Brien. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. I want more people to read it. This is self-serving. I want to have a higher chance of bumping into people who are dying to discuss it.

I love presenting in part because it’s a way to share the stuff I get excited about. Co-presenting with other people is great for the inverse reason. I love hearing what other people have been getting into and why they like it. And then you get the listeners calling and messaging with their angle on the same stuff, it’s wonderful. All in all it’s a satisfying way of connecting with people.

Outside the station I stare at maps, get excited about birds, and worry about everything.

Radio is one of the things I’ve been obsessed with since before I can remember. As a kid when people asked what I wanted to do when I grew up I would try to give an answer landing my hypothetical future self in Los Angeles because (living in a desert town with only a few stations) Los Angeles seemed to me the golden land of infinite radio.

When I moved to Australia as a weirdo teen it took me a long time to find anything that felt like home. The day I happened upon RTRFM my brain went off like a tuning fork.

How did you become involved in the station?

I’m now a weirdo fully-grown and it occurred to me a few years ago I have agency and can get involved with the things that make my home feel like my home. Free time and a tax return lined up in a way that gave me opportunity to do the presenting course. Huzzah!

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

I’ve been to many in Boorloo over the past quarter century but most meaningful might be In The Pines 2004, which I listened to on a livestream when I was living in Arizona and feeling homesick for WA. I was excited to hear all the bands but in particular I remember dancing around my little Tucson apartment to Snowman and the Tucker B’s.

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

The Rounds. Middle of Nowhere. Hard to pick!

Love music?
