‘Alien’ with Special Guest David O’Connell (Movie Squad Podcast Episode #16)
“In space, no one can hear you scream.” So says the infamous tagline to Alien (1979), the science-fiction horror classic directed by Ridley Scott and celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2019. Simon Miraudo and Tristan Fidler are joined by film critic David O’Connell (from X-Press Magazine) to reflect on their impressions of Alien, when they first saw it, how it hold ups to recent viewing, thoughts about the cast including Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, what they know about the making of the film including the work of artist H.R. Gieger, how do the other movies in the Alien franchise compare, and where does Alien remain relevant forty years later. Much like an ill-fated crew dropping into a darkened room of face-hugger eggs, this is a true exploration and excavation of an outer space nightmare. Enjoy!
