Firming for Renewable Energy and the Available Options

Firming is required for renewable forms of energy, as it keeps things reliable 24/7 so that people always have access to the electricity they need. The most common form of energy firming is batteries, however there are many other forms such as hydro, which some places are already using for regeneration of power. An emerging form of firming is virtual power plants, where people sign up to have their excess power used to help firm. This allows for storage of excess energy, and when it is needed it can be put back into the grid to keep it firm.

Jeff Bullen is joined by Professor Peta Ashworth on On The Record to talk about firming for renewable energy, and the future possibilities for it.
