About

Get to know DJ Sliding Doors

Along with loving music, and writing the odd review/non-fiction piece, I’m a massive movie buff, so my DJ name comes from the Gwenyth Paltrow film of the same name. I have an incredibly eclectic taste in music, with a particular love of post disco, and it’s one of life’s biggest joys to share music that moves me with other people. It’s so awesome to nudge myself into the beautiful community that is RTRFM!

How did you become involved in the station?

I found out about the station through a beau who was hosting show and invited me to say hi, the studio being a few doors down from my sharehouse. The music was shall we say…out there… and I remember thinking ‘Wow, it’s so cool we have a place for people to play all this weird music!’. You have this idea in your head of radio being pretty square, and designed to reach a wide net of people, it’s so fabulous that RTRFM caters to all these beautiful niches.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Seeing HTRK at the Fremantle Arts Centre was an incredible experience. They only had a few guitars, a maraca, and I think a little device playing the backing track, and it was so inspirational to see how simple it can be to make something so visceral and moving. Jonnine Standish’s live vocals were incredible too!

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

Black and Blue! Can’t go wrong!
