FREMANTLE RECLINK COMMUNITY CUP RETURNS FOR ITS THIRD YEAR FOR AN AFL GAME TO END ALL AFL GAMES.

NEWHOUNDS (COMMUNITY MEDIA) V BANDGROPERS (WA MUSICIANS)

The Reclink Community Cup, a much loved Aussie Rules charity match that pits musicians against media held annually across Australia is back for its fourth year in WA, this year our local edition, The Perth Reclink Community Cup will take place on the hollowed grounds of Fremantle Community Bank Oval, Saturday 8th September.

From humble beginnings that steadily grew to a highly successful regular event on Melbourne’s annual calendar, the Community Cups’ achievements are now being replicated around the country with community radio stations and local media in each state joining together to go head-to-head with local musicians in what is a family friendly entertaining day of grass roots football and live music both on and off the field.

The Reclink Community Cup is the one day of the year when Perth’s community radio and local musicians, everyday people, connect and come together to help Reclink Australia raise much needed funds that enable us to deliver sport, recreation and arts programs, which make a huge difference to the lives of the neediest in our community.” said John Ballis, CEO, Reclink Australia.

We are proud to announce both the Captains and Coaches for both teams.

The Bandgropers (WA Musician) will be lead on field by the Tenielle Elkins (Elk Bell/ APRA) and Leon Ewing (Beaverloop/ Sonnenmasse), with the calls being made off field by a couple of WA music legends, Bob Gordon – former editor of X-Press magazine and music journalist and Dixie Battersby – former publicist for EMI and friend of every Australian musician that matters.

The Newshounds (Community Media/ Organisations) will be lead on field by RTRFM presenter Marnie Richardson and the current WA Treasurer and football tragic Hon Ben Wyatt. They will be dutifully coached by Simon Collins – Music Editor, The West Australian and Essendon fan and Danae Gibson – RTRFM’s Talk Producer and biggest AFLW fan going around.

The Bandgropers will be made up of musicians from Sugar Army, The Tommyhawks, FOAM, The Love Junkies, Little Lord Street Band, Scalphunter and a whole heap more.

The Newshounds made up of RTRFM presenters, the ABC, Channel 10, Channel 9, Noongar Radio, The Music and Xpress Magazine.

Players will puff and pant back and forth across Fremantle Community Bank Oval, Fremantle, in a game which is part fun, part serious hilarity.

Plus after the game catch the sounds of The Tommyhawks, Flossy, Jack Davies and the Bush Chooks and DJ Mayor Brad Pettitt. Plus a special headliner to be announced soon.

The event will raise funds for Reclink Australia, who use sport and the arts to enhance the lives of people experiencing disadvantage. Reclink supports some of the community’s most vulnerable and isolated people – those experiencing mental illness, disability, homelessness, substance abuse, addiction, and social and economic hardship.

Curated by community radio station, RTRFM and the Perth Organising Committee, featuring Tom Fisher, Jason Cleary, Stuart MacLeod, Chris Dart-Kelly, Martine Linton, Danae Gibson, Steve Handford and Chris Wheeldon, all profits going to Reclink Australia.

The Perth Reclink Community Cup is proudly supported by Clancy’s Fish Pub, South Fremantle Football Club, Oztix, Reclink Australia, Stage Left Design and your home of footy RTRFM 92.1

There’ll be tasty food stalls and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on offer.
