Bros & Barbarian (Movie Squad Podcast #98)
With Halloween approaching, there are further spooky movie recommendations to be found on this week’s episode of the Movie Squad podcast, featuring Tristan Fidler and Cecilia Allen talking movies with Breakfast host Taylah Strano. But we also balance the horror recommendations with lighter fare, like a bright and funny rom-com!
First, Cecilia discusses the new movie, Bros, which stars comedian Billy Eichner (of Billy On The Street) who has also co-written and produced (along with Judd Apatow) the first gay romantic comedy released by a major Hollywood studio. Eichner plays Bobby (Eichner), a successful podcaster and LGBTQ+ historian who is happy with his single life in New York, yet falls in love with a muscular lawyer, Aaron (Luke Macfarlane). Directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Bad Neighbours). Released into cinemas this week.
Then, Tristan makes a reservation and checks in with a new horror film called Barbarian, which has received a lot of positive word-of-mouth and warnings to “go in without reading anything about it.” A young woman (Georgina Campbell) visiting Detroit for a job interview books an Airbnb. Arriving in the dead of night, she finds another person has booked the same house, Keith (Bill Skarsgard from It). From there, the film heads slowly into the unexpectedly horrifying. Directed by Zach Cregger. Out in cinemas now.
