‘Netflix Originals’ with Special Guest Janice Loreck (Movie Squad Podcast Episode #7)
Welcome to 2019 and a brand new year of movie viewing and movie reviewing! From the pre-recorded vaults of 2018, Movie Squad reviewers Simon Miraudo and Tristan Fidler present to you, dear listener, this episode for the holiday period. It’s all about Netflix and Netflix Originals, the movies that the streaming service either produces or acquires and then stamps “Netflix Original” over the title. We are joined by film academic and writer Janice Loreck to discuss our favourite (as well as our least favourite) Netflix movies while thinking about what streaming services have both added and subtracted to the cinematic form. Among the titles we discuss include Set It Up, Annihilation, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), Bright, 1922, and a whole lot more!
Please note: this was recorded in later 2018, so we unfortunately miss out discussing recent releases like The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs, Roma, and Bird Box.
