Say hello to

Liv Lightly

( She/her )

Soulful house is my beat and I love local arts, culture and community. I’m a long time listener turned kinda recent presenter.

About

Get to know Liv Lightly

I pretty much discovered underground dance music through RTRFM. I was one of those people who taped Underground Solution. I made friends going out – many past RTRFM presenters, some still presenting, who I feel so lucky to still have in my life. I always get sentimental when old friends are on the dancefloor and/or the decks!

After listening for around 25 years, now it’s time to curate and continue discovering through presenting. I love being able to share music I get excited about and when I play something that connects with someone, it’s really special.

Outside of RTRFM, I sometimes teach, write and give reiki to folks.

How did you become involved in the station?

I’ve been listening to RTRFM for a long time, but lived in Copenhagen for 15 years and when I came back to Boorloo, I wanted to be more involved. I started helping out in the phone room during Radiothon. Then in Radiothon 2022, I won a subscriber prize of a DJ controller and a course with Larry D and finally learned to mix. I did a breakfast mix and some people said I should do the presenter course so I signed up.

Danielle Rafaelle was so inspiring and encouraging on the course, before I knew it, I was on air.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Ooh too hard. Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Portishead, but probably my most memorable gigs have been of the dancefloor kind – Francois K and Joe Claussell at Body and Soul, Timmy Regisford at Shelter, Gilles Peterson and Aftronaut at Plastic People, Vibes on a Summers Day at Belvoir Amphitheatre, Theo Parrish at Players, many, many memorable gigs.

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

Underground Solution is hallowed ground, but I also love Black and Blue, Full Frequency and many others. Jamdown Vershun and Saturday Jazz are also institution and Golden Apples is beautiful. Friday is my favourite day to tune in live from Art Beat, through to Sandy, Vishnu, Full Freq through to Black and Blue. Friday is a very good day on RTRFM!
