‘Lunacy’ – the price of moon rocks

On the Record this morning, Fiona chats with Matthew Shaw a PHD Student at Swinburne University as he is the 2021 Asia-Pacific Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition winner.

Matthew fills us in on what the competition entails as well as further explaining his presentation ‘Lunacy’. After years of research in metal extraction on the moon and conducting his PHD thesis, the competition is a communication challenge to condense all the information into 3 minutes and making it accessible for any audience to understand.

The 3MT competition is held in more than 85 countries worldwide, Matthew’s research explores space construction and how metal are extracted from Moon rocks to construct large structures in space. This being an area that has not yet been studied in detail before.
