Joseph Quartermaine (Episode #6)

Joseph Quartermaine arrived at Marribank Mission at the age of 4 and remained there for 11 years.

He spent those years chopping wood, peeling potatoes, and in a happy reprieve, playing footy.

Years later he achieved a high school certificate and began a career as a mechanic. But it was only then, outside the mission, that the trauma of his youth came calling.

During this conversation with Tony Hansen, Joseph Quartermaine—or Lowy, as he prefers to be called—shares his life story. Next week, we’ll hear from his sister, Katherine.
